If you’re new to fusing, you’ll want to begin here. Our Getting Started with Kiln Fired Glass booklet (see below) is a comprehensive guide to learning about basic tools, stages of kilnforming, firing schedules, and best practices for successful project creation.
What is glass fusing?
Below we walk you through building a simple project to illustrate the basic steps involved.
Step One
Gather your glass palette with both Transparent and Opals colors. Rremove any stickers.
Step two
Begin Cutting various sizes of squares and rectangles in different colors of glass.
Step Three
Arrange glass pieces to evenly cover your Clear glass base, adhering with pinpoints of glue.
step four
Stack smaller pieces on top of your first design layer, making concentric shapes as shown. Adhere in place.
Step five
Carefully place the assembled project into your kiln and fire to a full fuse. (We ewcommend using Kiln Shelf Paper underneath to protect your shelf.)
Step Six
All the smaller glass pieces have melted into one solid flat piece. You can be finished or form it into a dish in the next step.
Step Seven (Optional)
The flat piece can be shaped into a curved dish by placing it on top of a ceramic mold and firing again to a lower temperature.
