Glass Rods/Cane
Pencil-thin rods of fusible glass used in fusing, blowing and torch work
We manufacture our Rods (or Cane) to provide glassblowers and torch workers with stable color and smooth workability. Rods also provide design elements for fusing and casting applications. Each rod is approximately 6mm dia. x 20″ (50cm) long. Both of the pieces above feature nipped rods that were stood on edge when fused to create circular dots.
How IT's Used
Blowers use cane for color layering and linear design elements. Our machine-made cane provides uniform color and dependable COE at less cost than hand-pulling in the studio. Our cane also provides torch-workers with a dependable glass for soft glass work which carries the added benefit that finished pieces can be confidently incorporated into fused, cast, or blown work within the Oceanside Compatible family of products. Cane is also commonly used in fused and cast work to introduce crisp linear elements or nipped into small pieces that fuse into uniform small circles or dots.
